I’m cleaning up a number of unfinished projects from my Sabbatical that is about to end (June 8th). One of them was the crazy idea of making a music video parody of the insidious Rebecca Black song “Friday”. Back when I had this idea the song was all the rage on YouTube as viral flames and denouncements of its insipid lyrics filled the internet. The ground swell of disregard for the song seems to have faded to the background now, but I still think my parody lyrics and video would have been fun. So here is a link to the original video and a posting of my parody lyrics below. Unless someone wants to make the video with me, this will be about as far as the project goes. Shabbat Shalom!
Shabbas to the tune of “Friday, by Rebecca Black”
lyrics by Rabbi Dan Moskovitz
(Yeah, Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ark)
Oo-ooh-ooh, hoo yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah-ah-ah
Yeah-ah-ah
Yeah-ah-ah
Yeah-ah-ah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
8 a.m., waking up in the morning
Gotta be fresh, gotta go downstairs
Gotta have my bagel gotta have lox
Say motzei, the rabbi is waitin’
Kippah on and on, everybody’s rushin’
Gotta get goin’ to the synagogue
Gotta start walkin’ I see my friends (My friends)
Kickin’ in the front row
Sittin’ in the back row
Gotta make my mind up
Which seat will I take?
It’s Shabbas, shabbas
Gotta slow down on Shabbas
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the Kiddush, Kiddush
Shabbas, shabbas
Slowin’ down on Shabbas
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the Kiddush
Davenin’, Davenin’ (Yeah)
Davenin’, Davenin’ (Yeah)
Fun, fun, fun, fun
Lookin’ forward to the Kiddush
11:45 we’re davenin’ the musaf
Prayin’ so fast, I want time to fly
Fun, fun, think about fun
You know what it is
I got this, you got this
My zayde is by my right, ay
I got this, you got this
Now you know it
Kickin’ in the front row
Sittin’ in the back row
Gotta make my mind up
Which seat will I take?
It’s Shabbas, shabbas
Gotta slow down on Shabbas
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the Kiddush, Kiddush
Shabbas, shabbas
Slowin’ down on Shabbas
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the Kiddush
Davenin’, Davenin’ (Yeah)
Davenin’, Davenin’ (Yeah)
Fun, fun, fun, fun
Lookin’ forward to the Kiddush
Yesterday was Friday, Friday
Today i-is Saturday, Saturday (davenin’)
We-we-we so excited
We so excited
We gonna have a nap today
Tonight is Havdallah
And Sunday comes after … wards
I don’t want this shabbas to end
R-D Rabbi Dan
So chillin’ in the front row (In the front row)
In the back row (In the back row)
I’m davenin’, schmoozin’ (Yeah, yeah)
Progressive Jews, traditional
I don’t matter we’re all Jews (Woo!)
(C’mon) Passin’ by is a boy in front of me
Makes a bracha, an Aliyah, wanna see
Can’t check my phone, it’s Shabbas, it’s a Bar Mitzvah
We gonna have fun, c’mon, c’mon, y’all
It’s Shabbas, shabbas
Gotta get down on Shabbas
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the Kiddush, Kiddush
Shabbas, shabbas
Gettin’ down on Shabbas
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the Kiddush
Davenin’, Davenin’ (Yeah)
Davenin’, Davenin’ (Yeah)
Fun, fun, fun, fun
Lookin’ forward to the Kiddush
It’s Shabbas, shabbas
Gotta get down on Shabbas
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the Kiddush, Kiddush
